Southern Cycle for Health (Free access to Bicycles and Cycle Leader Training)
Cycling is a great way to get more active, outdoors, meet new people and improve your health and wellbeing. Southern Cycle for Health offers groups and organisations the opportunity to access for FREE, training, bicycles and safety equipment.
Who is eligible?
Anyone working or volunteering for a group or organisation within the Southern Health & Social Care Trust (SHSCT) area who can commit to delivering a cycling programme for clients/users for the benefit of their health, once trained.
Where are the bicycles?
5 cycle pod sites available in:
- Armagh (Loughgall Country Park)
- Banbridge (Scarva Tea Rooms)
- Dungannon (Dungannon Leisure Centre)
- Portadown (Cascades Leisure Centre)
- Newry (Win Business Centre)
Each pod has 16 unisex bicycles available for 13+ age range, helmets and other safety equipment.
How can I access the bicycles?
To access the pods you need to complete the 2 day CTC Cycle Leader* training provided FREE by SHSCT. *only groups who intend to access Cycle for Health pods and equipment, to deliver their cycling programme, will be eligible for the 2 day CTC Cycle Leader training.
After the training You will have access to all of the pod sites in the SHSCT area. You will be supported through the Southern Area Cycle Leader network with updates, optional first aid and maintenance training.
The bikes can only be used by trained cycle leaders. To book at Loughgall Country Park, download and complete the Cycle Booking Form.
IMPORTANT: All bookings will be confirmed by the Local Cycle Coordinator. Make sure your booking has been confirmed before arriving for your cycle programme
SHSCT has responsibility for the maintenance and safety of the bicycles and equipment. A faults reporting/maintenance procedure is in place to ensure the equipment is safe and functional.
